What pisses me off about vitamins, minerals and supplementation!!!
I recently caught up with a friend in my hometown social group while I was unwell and about to head from there to
a holiday destination. I was taking at the time a garlic extract and
was having 5,000mg of vitamin C every 2hours without having the need to rush to the toilet (my body was absorbing it). As I was doing so a friend of a friend asked me what I was doing and I explained to them that high doses of vitamin C and garlic can actually aid in restoration of your health when your immunological system is low.
This particular individual then went out of their way to chastise me
and say "ohhh your one of those expensive urine people who thinks that
supplements actually do something". Being socially pleasant (I wanted to rip into the person actually) I said, "ohhh tell me, what makes you say that" and then the person began to talk for the next 20 minutes about how
supplements of all sorts are "crap and are a money making machine for
vitamin companies" (this same individual thinks that fluoride is good for your teeth and bones).
Smiling I said "so do you have any evidence for this? Say like medical
journal articles, research and etc?" and the person said "I don't need
any evidence, I just know that people like yourself waste a lot of their
money on substances which will do nothing for them".
Smiling, I went into google scholar and within 5 minutes had 60 journal
articles from many different institutions, magazines, journals, research
institutions and even from the UNITED NATIONS about how important it is to consider supplementation for your health and preventative diseases.
When I did this, the person refused to read them saying "I don't have enough time" and to
whence I replied in a NLP reframe, "time for what, your education on
your health?". But I didn't waste any more of my time and I began to read passages to the person out aloud, going out of my way to emphasise certain points, in certain articles.
The person started to angry at me when I demonstrated that I knew more than what they did on health - Exposing their ignorance (hey sometimes it's good to
argue and get the upper hand). This led them to walking out of the room trying to save face stating "I know
I'm right, the articles don't mean anything and I still think that your
wasting your time with vitamins..."
THIS IS WHAT PISSES ME OFF ABOUT SUPPLEMENTATION...
This is what pisses me off the most about supplementation... The fact that some of the best nutrients for human beings are available to each and everyone of us and people still do not take them nor do they realise how powerful and potent these supplements are. Many people, even to
this day - "Medical Doctors" consider the rather ignorant and stupid
belief that the taking of nutrients makes urine "expensive"...
To me, whoever makes
such stupid claims about supplementation without first backing up their
claims, comes across as incredibly ignorant. They also come across to me
as the type of person who, having read the bible and not read any
scientific or similar literature - Will make the claim that the earth is just over 6,000 years old.
While I don't agree with mainstream science on their figures as well (even
though the articles are well written and sound), I do not also believe
in religions claim about the world and it's age around us... So why
should I ever consider someone else's claim about supplements,
especially vitamin C and garlic being "expensive urine"... But let's
take this one step further for a moment.
Let's agree with the outlandish claim that supplementation may make expensive urine... Let's say that the person who stormed out of the room was right... Let's ask then, why does the urine become expensive??? Could it be that if
you have too much of something which the body cannot absorb, it expels
it in its waste systems?
Indeed in order for the body to expel whatever it is that it is expelling, it must have absorbed part of it in the first place - This is common sense and simple thinking which does not need to be backed by science. But here is another point, in order for anything to
be expelled from the human body, it must first HAVE BEEN READILY
ABSORBED BY A PERSON'S DIGESTIVE, IMMUNOLOGICAL AND SIMILAR SYSTEMS.
In other words, nutrients needs to go through many different bodily systems in order to be absorbed and later expelled. But let's take the bullshit idea of expensive rime one step further...
In an ideal world, with an ideal food supply, poly-cultural farming
practices, lack of pollution, fresh air and zero environmental toxins
(10,000 years B.C.E. and before) and adequate nutrition - We should not
have the need to supplement... We should have expensive urine... But, folks let me give you some honest information - WE DO NOT LIVE IN AN IDEAL WORLD and our urine is highly vitamin and nutrient efficient i.e. has nothing of value within it expelled from the body on an average western diet.
Of course this is not 5-10,000 B.C.E. where the food we would have eaten in these eras was highly full of nutrients. Neither do we live in a world which practices poly-cultural farming or soil/land rotation. In fact we live in a world with 50,000 different types of toxins and we live in a
world where we do not have enough nutrients in our food to
help us live long and be alive, like in our relatively recent past with our ancestors.
Indeed, we each live in a chemical, biological, electrical and
toxicological mix of substances and organisms which given the chance
would make us sick or even try to kill us for their benefit. This is why it is exceptionally important to supplement with a balanced diet... I.e. to have expensive urine.
When each of us supplement with a balanced diet, we can then rightfully claim hat our urine is expensive... But we can also claim that it is the type of urine with nutrients which have kept ourselves... ALIVE!
Think about it...
